This is my King Tiger built from the very old first issue Tamiya kit. The kit was incomplete when I got it missing the gun and mantlet. A good friend gave me his spare collection of Dragon parts for the King Tiger which allowed me to build this model as it included a mantlet and gun. I also replaced many of the Tamiya moulded on details with the much better dragon parts.
I used a set of WWII Productions Resin individual link tracks that went together very well but are quite brittle. They do however look amazing when on the tank.
The tank was painted with Tamiya acrylics for the main base green colour, Humbrol enamels were used with freehand brush to create the ‘octopus ring’ camouflage pattern. The primer red colour is Tamiya hull red lightened with buff. The model was weathered with mig washes, oil paints and mig pigments. As I was trying to model a tank that had been repaired with a new turret (still in factory primer) I decided to add the builders chalk marks and numbers to the turret using a very sharp white watercolour pencil.
